Refrigerator Story
by Chloe Michelle
I’d outgrown my refrigerator, that’s my story. It got too small too quickly. I’m in the market for one about [yea] big. It’s gotta be able to preserve, as a refrigerator does. It must be a pretty good refrigerator if it can be all that. I think that’s a good way to be.
The refrigeratorm’n told me I’m here to buy a refrigerator. I don’t know how he knew that, ‘cause I was keeping it to myself. He asked what I wanted and I told him. The one I used to have was fine until it got too small. He asked me what it looked like and I told him. The one I used to have was big until it wasn’t, and now it won’t preserve as good as it used to. He asked what I use it for and I told him. I use it to preserve, ‘cept now it’s too small so I need a new one. He tells me he knows exactly what I’m looking for, so I follow him.
I’m pretty cold. I’ve been here for a while now, so I don’t mind ‘cause I know it’s working, so I don’t mind, ‘cause I feel how it’s taking me a minute to think ‘cause I know it’s working, ‘cause I’m pretty cold. Yesterday was a little while ago, just the way I like it. Inside is a cheese I knew when I was young.
The refrigeratorm’n was waiting. I asked what he was waiting for and he said he was keeping it to himself. I told him I’d done that before too, ‘cause I have. I said the refrigerator is good and does an alright job, as long as it doesn’t get too small. I think it’ll do fine ‘till it gets small, then I’ll need a new one. He tells me this is the only one they’ve got, so I shake his hand ‘cause there’s nothing else to do.
Me and my fridge go a long way back, which is a nice way to be. I thought about how glad I am that I think it’s exactly what I was looking for. It got put where a refrigerator ought to be and stuck it with a magnet. Before bed I made sure it was big enough and preserved good. And I found myself snug as a bug ‘till the next day I woke up two inches taller.
